I. Superintendent's Recommendations and Report

1. Appointments – (Information Only – No Action Required)

a. Ms. Jane Blakeman to the position of One on One Special Ed Paraprofessional at Watertown High School for 32.5 hours paid per week at the hourly rate of $14.86.

b. Mr. Paul Catuccio to the position of Athletic Coordinator at Swift Middle School for the 2007-2008 school year at a contractual stipend of $2,173.00.

c. Ms. Susan Chowaniec to the position of Resource Paraprofessional, Category #2, Special Ed Program, at Judson School effective August 31, 2007 for 30.0 hours paid per week at the hourly rate of $12.30.

d. Ms. Jennifer Larkin to the position of Guidance Counselor at Watertown High School effective August 29, 2007, being hired on Step 3, with a Masters Degree, with 2 years of Experience at an annual contractual salary of $44,856.00 ($42,567 plus extra days @ $2,289).

e. Ms. Roseann Mancini to the position of One to One Paraprofessional, Category #1, at Judson School effective August 31, 2007 for 30.0 hours paid per week, at an hourly rate of $12.39.

f. Ms. Megan McGrath to the position of Guidance Counselor at Watertown High School effective August 29, 2007, being hired on Step 3, with a Masters Degree, with 2 years of experience, at an annual contractual salary of $44,856.00 ($42,567 plus extra days @ $2,289).

g. Ms. Diane Rigby to the position of Family and Consumer Science Teacher at Swift Middle School effective August 29, 2007, being hired on Step 5, with a Masters Degree, with 4 years of experience, at an annual contractual salary of $46,216.00.

h. Ms. Patricia Walluck to the position of temporary Data Assistant starting August 6, 2007 through August 30, 2007 for 7.0 hours paid per day, at Watertown High School, at an hourly rate of $15.00.

i. Ms. Michelle Velardi to the position of Program Paraprofessional, Category #2, Special Ed Program, at Judson School starting August 31, 2007, for 30.0 hours paid per week, at an hourly rate of $11.82.

c. Ms. Michael Gaydos from the position of Assistant Principal at Watertown High School effective August 17, 2007 to accept another position.

3. Transfers – (Information Only – No Action Required)

a. Ms. Jody Field from the position of .3 Art Teacher at Polk School to .3 Art Teacher John Trumbull Primary School effective with the 2007-2008 school year.

b. Ms. Donna Wright from the position of .2 Art Teacher at John Trumbull Primary School to .2 Art Teacher at Polk School effective with the 2007-2008 school year.

4. Space Needs: 2007-2008 School Year

Administration will present to the Board of Education an update regarding student swing space at Polk School, Judson School and Watertown High School for 2008-2009.

5. Town Hall Study Update

Administration has invited Architect Stephen Whitaker to update the Board of Education on the work of the Joint Committee that has studied the Town Hall / Board of Education office issue.

K. Action Items – Adoption of Items to be Approved by Consent

a. Consideration of the Approval of Dress Code Policy – Second Reading

At its meeting on July 9, 2007, the Policy and Labor Committee reviewed the Dress Code Policy and presented the policy to the full Board for the first reading on July 23, 2007. The Dress Code Policy is presented tonight for the second reading and for full Board of Education approval. (See Attachment A.)

It is recommended that the Board approve of the Dress Code Policy effective with the 2007-2008 school year.

b. Consideration of the Approval of the Acceptance of Gifts

1. The Knights of Columbus, Council #3594, would like to donate $1,000.00 to the Future Business Leaders Association (FBLA) at Watertown High School.

2. The Community Crusade for Children, Inc., (Kiducation) would like to donate $366.75 from the Community Crusade for Children’s Kiducation Fund. These funds were generated from the donation containers at Rite Aid in Watertown.

It is recommended that the Board approve of the acceptance of these generous gifts and letters of appreciation to be sent to the donors.

c. Consideration of the Approval of Medical Leave of Absence

Ms. Kathy Ciarlo, Reading Teacher at Swift Middle School, requests a medical leave of absence commencing August 29, 2007 for approximately four to six weeks with use of accumulated sick days.

It is recommended that the Board approve of a medical leave of absence for Ms. Kathy Ciarlo, Reading Teacher at Swift Middle School, commencing August 29, 2007 for approximately four to six weeks with use of accumulated sick days and a medical doctor’s note to return.

d. Discussion and Possible Ratification of Secretaries’ Contract Following a Discussion in Executive Session

e. Discussion and Possible Action on Approval of Salary Increases for Nonaffiliated Staff for the 2007-2008 School Year Following a Discussion in Executive Session
